Welcome to the Women’s Map Gränna!

“To put women on the map” is a project whose purpose is to highlight women in history who have lived and worked in Gränna and the surrounding area. The result is this women’s map, which was produced by the members of a writing circle in Gränna.

The Gränna women’s map is also available in physical form with a selection of the women on this page. The physical map can be picked up at Grenna Museum. Here on Grenna Museum’s website, it is possible to both read and listen to each story.

The women in the map have been selected for various reasons. They have been active in Gränna’s social life, paved the way in areas that were previously dominated by men or were well known in their area thanks to their personality or deeds. Others have, for various reasons, met a tragic fate. What they all have in common is that their lives and destinies have fascinated us and that we wanted to highlight their stories.

The reading of the texts has been done by one of the participants of the writing circle: Agneta Karlberg de Jonghe.

Regarding the pictures, the name of the photographer has been stated where the name is known.

“To put women on the map” is a collaboration between Studieförbundet Vuxenskolan and Grenna Museum. The project has been partially financed by the Swedish Nationality Heritage Board.

Finally, some information to those who want to visit the places on the map: Keep in mind that many of these places are someone’s residential building. Show respect and do not enter someone’s private property.
